Introduction and Guidelines
Dear Scholarship Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in applying for the Fred Scheigert Scholarship offered through the Council of Citizens with Low Vision International (CCLVI). Please read through these guidelines before starting to complete the application. You will need to fill out the online application completely and provide all required supporting documentation as indicated. Scholarship applications for 2010-2011 must be received by March 1, 2010.
To qualify to receive a scholarship award, you must be:
- full-time college/trade/vocational student for the 2010-11 academic year
- registered for at least 12 undergraduate units (9 graduate units)
- minimum cumulative 3.2 Grade Point Average (GPA)
If you believe you have extenuating circumstances that prevent you from meeting these conditions, such as an additional disability or work requirements, please provide us with a complete explanation.
Vision requirements
Scholarships are offered to students with low vision from 20/70 in the better eye with best possible correction, or a field restricted to no greater than 30 degrees, to those who have less vision but are still able to benefit from the use of low vision devices to perform daily visual tasks.
Applicants must submit a completed Certification of Low Vision form from an ophthalmologist indicating that the applicant meets low vision criteria. You must have your doctor complete CCLVI's eye report form after December 15, 2009. No other eye report documentation will be accepted.

- CCLVI Fred Scheigert Scholarship Application (complete online and mail summary)
- A certified copy of transcripts from the school where you are currently enrolled or most recently attended.
- Two (2) Letters of Recommendation (Letter of recommendation
will be accepted either:
- As a word document with electronic letterhead and signature attached to an e-mail sent to scholarship@cclvi.org, or
- Letters of recommendation on letterhead and signature (hard copy mailed along with other materials.)
- Verification of low vision (please visit Certification of Low Vision for a printable form).
- A letter of acceptance from your school, or the date you will be notified of acceptance if attending a new school in next academic year.

Please note the following important information:
This is a publicized award. Additionally, as part of the finalist application process, you may be contacted for a phone interview. Lastly, any additional information that was not requested by way of this notice will be dismissed and not included with review of your application.
We want to make the application process as easy as possible for you, so please follow these steps:
- Have your school transcripts with you while completing the application. We will ask for GPA, number of courses completed, etc…
- There is an essay question. Answer the following essay question in a Word document before you start completing the application. When asked for the essay response on the application, copy and paste your answer from the Word document to the on-line application.
- Discuss your work experience, extra curricular activities that you are involved in, including school, church, and community, and describe leadership positions you have held. List any awards, honors, or citations received. Lastly, it is essential that you tell us how you plan to use these scholarship monies (if you were to be granted the scholarship award). Please confine your response to a maximum of 500 words.
